Our #VisitGallia2K15 Photo Contest is in full swing as June comes to a close. As of right now, we have 187 photos and 34 participants. Participation seems to be mostly on Facebook and some from Instagram. It has been amazing seeing all the different photos that are being submitted, when we first began I was worried that we were only going to receive pictures of peoples animals. However as time went on we received a wide variety of photos; ranging from landscapes to youth league football. We are getting photos from professionals and amateurs, and each of them have a story to tell.
When we see these photos of the county fair or date night at Silver Screen Seven it is something that most of us can relate to. It reminds us of the community we live in and what makes it beautiful. The goal of this contest was not to just give away some (really) cool stuff, but to involve the community in reminding us all what makes Gallia County a great place to live, and that's our residents. Too often on social media sites we see negative things tearing down our community. What we really need to post are the positive things about our home and lift those up for all to see.
Thank you to all of our participants for your entries! Gallia is a great place to live and with your photos others can see that too!
I always think it is interesting whenever residents of Gallia County stop in our office and begin looking at what we have to offer. They are amazed that the opportunities just outside their door. There are so many things that Gallia County has to offer that residents just forget are there or went to on their fourth grade class field trip and it become just a memory. This week we launched our #VisitGallia2K15 Photo Contest! This project is the brain child of Director Amanda Crouse. The project started with the promo video that Amanda slaved over for a really long time. I then created several options for posters.
These posters have been tweaked and changed many times. In the end we choose the poster with the Black background and the 3D logo. Then we created a Facebook page for the contest. This page must be monitored and kept up-to-date constantly. After we launched the page I was receiving messages about the rules, what I thought was clear wasn't. This project is defiantly a work in progress and has taken a lot of time to maintain.
Whenever a participant uses the #VisitGallia2K15 along with a photo it is suppose to be linked to that Facebook page, this hasn't worked perfectly because Facebook doesn't recognize hashtags very well. Despite this issue most of our pictures have been uploaded through Facebook. Whenever I find a picture with the hashtag or it is linked to our page I have been adding them to an excel file. At the end of the contest (August 15th) we will then choose our winners! This contest will have Three! Our first official prize is a nights stay at Raccoon Creekside Cottage! Not too bad!
Rules for the contest are as follows 1. Only two submissions per day will be counted. 2. Pictures must be taken in Gallia County 3. Photos need to be put on our page or use the #VisitGallia2K15
Bevo Francis was one of the greatest college basketball players of all time and he called Gallia County Home. He scored 116 points without the 3-point line in one game and held the NCAA record of 113 points in a game. I didn't know him personally however, everyone knows who Bevo Francis is. I spent most of my childhood in Rio Grande, I learned to swim at the Lyne Center, participated academic festivals and attended the University in the PSEO program. Every time I was in the gym someone would always point out the number 32 Jersey hanging from the ceiling and talk about his accomplishments. This post goes out to his family and loved ones, Bevo was always behind this community and we will continue to uphold his legacy.
